My Journey: From Breadwinners to University – A Story of Growth and Empowerment
Having been part of the Breadwinners family since 2019, I have had the privilege of participating in various programmes, including Riser, Market Stall Manager and Proofers. These experiences have allowed me to upskill, develop hard and soft skills, and discover a community that feels like a second family. Reflecting on my journey, I can already see immense positive changes within myself that were beyond the scope of putting into words.
Securing My Future at University
With the unwavering support of Breadwinners, I’ve realised my capabilities, potential, and unique talents. After years of studying at college and working across several sectors, I was thrilled to have secured a place at the University of Exeter to study for a BSc in Medical Sciences. This course has enabled me to develop expertise in various fields, not only in medical and healthcare fields but also in vital areas such as CV writing, cover letters, employability, IT skills and public speaking.
Giving Back Through STAR: Student Action for Refugees
As I enter my final year at university, I feel an immense sense of motivation and a deep desire to give back to young individuals from refugee backgrounds. This passion has driven me to nominate myself as Vice President of STAR (Student Action for Refugees). In this role, I hope to support young people in Exeter with academic and employment skills by organising activities such as ESOL classes, fundraising campaigns, job application workshops and offering guidance to boost their confidence and knowledge.
Speaking to the Next Generation
Last week I had the opportunity and was truly delighted to speak about further and higher education, discussing pathways into university, potential challenges and barriers, and the financial aid available to help these individuals achieve their dreams at the Breadwinners office.
