Sharing the Breadwinners Impact Story at On Purpose

A few weeks ago, we had the pleasure of joining On Purpose to deliver an Impact Case Study, sharing how we measure, understand and communicate the impact of our work with young refugees and people seeking asylum.

I was joined by Momin, Solomon and Maria from the Breadwinners team. It was the first time Momin and Solomon helped deliver this session, bringing their own experiences and perspectives into the room. Seeing that was a powerful reminder that impact measurement is not just about data — it’s about people, growth and lived experience.

One moment that stayed with me came from Solomon, who shared:

If you feel pain, it means you are alive. If you feel someone else’s pain, it means you are human.
— Solomon, Risers Graduate

That reflection captured so much of what sits behind our impact work. At Breadwinners, measuring impact is not only about proving outcomes, but about staying connected to the human stories behind the numbers.

Being back at On Purpose and seeing the same energy of the associates was great! It remains one of the most inspiring networks of people pivoting their careers into the social and environmental sectors. Being part of it years ago genuinely changed my life and helped shape my own journey into social impact.

It’s also why On Purpose fellows often make some of the best volunteer mentors for young people. They understand what it takes to break into a new job, navigate uncertainty and keep going through the challenges of career change — experiences that deeply resonate with the young people we support.

A big thank you to the On Purpose team for creating spaces where people can connect, reflect and keep pushing for a better world.
