Our latest Accounts & Trustees' Report are out!

Hey, everyone!

I'm Martin, the Managing Director of Breadwinners and I just wanted to share a quick update on our accounts. Yes, the boring part first - the accounts to March 2022 have been completed. All good, we are standing strong and after wrestling with COVID and we are holding well against the Cost of Living Crisis…

A year in numbers

I'm so proud to say that we had a successful year. We launched an online wholesale program which allowed us to keep our programs running for young refugees and people seeking asylum. Our retail operations grew and we were able to sell our artisan baked goods at 10 weekly markets in London, four in Brighton, and supply 21 cafes and restaurants every week. This resulted in over 900 days of paid work and 440 days of work experience for our program participants.

Even during lockdowns, we found ways to keep our community connected and provide training to our program participants. We held 108 sessions that taught new skills and 13 community sessions to bring everyone together. Our team grew to 7 people to better support young refugees and people seeking asylum and we even provided laptops to make sure everyone had access.

Awards

And can I just say, the awards and recognition we received this year were amazing! We won the Prove It: Social Impact Award at the UK Social Enterprise Awards 2022, the Impact Management Champion award from Pioneers Post SE100 2022, and the Social Innovation Award from the Social Value Portal 2022. It's amazing to see how far we've come and the impact we've made.

Acknowledgments

I just want to give a big shoutout to our team, some of them who are already doing amazing work on other charities (Georgia, Alice, Hussam, Hassan, Dani), graduates, and mentors of the "Breadwinners," "Risers," and "Proofers" programs. Your hard work and dedication make all of this possible. And of course, a huge thank you to our donors and partners for your support. We couldn't do this without you!

Looking ahead

But here's the thing, we never want to settle and we're always looking for ways to improve. So even though we had a successful year and made a big impact, we're already thinking about how we can do even better in the future. Whether it's expanding our programs, finding new ways to support young refugees and people seeking asylum, or finding more innovative solutions, we're always pushing ourselves to do more. Watch out for our Participatory Action Research Impact Report coming soon!

Overall, it was a fantastic year and I can't wait to see what we can accomplish in the future. Thank you for being a part of the Breadwinners community!

See you at our markets!

Martin

Thanks Carbon Accountacy for putting together our accounts and supporting us on our journey!
