Read our 2022 Impact Report!

We are excited to announce the launch of our latest Impact Report!

This year, we took our reporting to the next level by using a Participatory Action Research methodology. Led by Abdoul, a graduate of our Risers Programme, and a team of 12 young people including participants from our Proofers Programme, our young people designed our survey questions and called over 250 alumni. This approach not only provided us with meaningful insights to improve our programmes, but it also gave our programme participants the opportunity to gain new skills and paid work.

We believe that measuring impact should be useful and simple, while producing changes and empowering your community! We hope you find our report that way too! We look forward to hearing your thoughts on our report and continuing to create a positive impact in our community.

Sharing our learnings

This was our first time conducting our Participatory Action Research and I highly recommend this approach to anyone looking to conduct impact reporting for their own programmes, as it not only provides the best possible insight into your mission but also supports the people you work with by empowering them to influence the strategy of your charity.

In creating this report, our goal was therefore also to share what we learned and help other charities and social enterprises conduct their own Participatory Action Research, as we found that there was not a lot of existing information available online.

We sat down with Abdoul to hear about his experience leading a Participatory Action Research for the first time in the interview below, in which he shares tips and advice for fellow researchers who are looking to try out this methodology for the first time.

And we summarised our process in a 10-step video tutorial! Click below to watch!

If you have any feedback or questions about the PAR methodology and our impact measurements, please reach out to Abdoul at abdoul@breadwinners.org.uk!

A massive thank you!

Thank you to every single one of our loyal customers, bakery and charity partners, markets, funders, and volunteers for enabling us to deliver our life-changing work and a special thank you to all our programme participants who inspire us every day! I also want to express my gratitude to the Core Team and our Trustees. We could not do the work that we do without every single one of you!

This year, a special shoutout goes to our PAR Researchers Abdoul, Abdu Idris, Abdullah, Ahmed Mohamed, Aron, Espoir, Mahad, Mohammad, Hassan, Mohammad, Ibrahim, Rabab, Sepehr, and Vanessa for helping us gather feedback from our community and improve our programmes! And a huge thank you to our Communications Officer Delphine Polidori who designed our report this year with the beautiful artwork of our talented Mentor Lydia Ratto.
