Finding My Way: A Message of Hope and Guidance for Refugees in the UK
Navigating life in the United Kingdom during the asylum process and after was a
challenge for me. It felt like being a new student in a new school, I had no clue about
anything but I knew I had to be here.
I had to adjust to the cultural differences, the weather, the fact that I had to repeat
myself or talk louder for anyone to understand what I am saying.
I did not have a guide, I mean you can have various narratives on social media but it
does not come close to the actual experience. Having to live with limited amount of
information, resources, not knowing what to do or where to go to get help and then
having to figure out life when you do get a refugee status.
I know there are people like me who need a guide, something that explains the
process and what to do after. I had to learn some of these things on my own like
finding charities that can support me. I am grateful to charities like Breadwinners who
gave me my first working experience and trained me to gain some sort of skills
especially customer service. I wrote this short guide to give back to those that made
my life easier and to help those that are stuck with so many questions and concerns.
My word of encouragement is- You are not alone, you deserve a life void of fear and
I hope that this helps you to navigate life better.
