What Breadwinners gave me

Today is my last day here but honestly, it doesn’t feel like an ending. It feels like a new beginning. One that started to grow inside me because of the people I met here.

When I first arrived I didn’t speak English well. I had come from very difficult circumstances with a lot happening in my life and in my home country Sudan. I was mentally exhausted and unsure about my future. I felt lost but I still carried a small hope even though I didn’t know where it would lead.

From the very beginning Breadwinners felt different. It wasn’t just a programme or a training course. It was people. People who welcomed me with smiles, kindness and encouragement. That welcome helped me slowly feel like myself again. I didn’t just learn skills here. I felt seen and supported.

Every Wednesday there were days when I felt too tired or stressed to attend. But as soon as I arrived and was welcomed my mood changed. We learned new things, explored opportunities and started to believe in what might be possible for us. Raina’s positive energy and kindness helped me feel comfortable and motivated. You made learning feel safe and encouraging and I will always remember that.

My mentor also played a huge role in my journey. He believed in me, supported me and trusted me to keep going even when things felt hard. What started as mentoring became something much more. Real guidance, encouragement and a strong connection that helped me grow in confidence. *Having someone believe in me helped me believe in myself.

Being part of Breadwinners had a really positive impact on my confidence and wellbeing. I learned how to believe in myself again and feel hopeful about what comes next. This journey has been an amazing experience for me. I never imagined I would be given an opportunity like this. One that helped me grow not just professionally but personally too. Breadwinner didn’t just prepare me for work. It helped prepare me for life.
